Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday August 21 summoned at least 13 Bomet county assembly members over misconducts and causing chaos during the last week’s speaker election.
The commission asked the Bomet county assembly clerk to provide it with personal files of Robert Serbai, the Embomos ward representative who was allegedly seen snatching and attempting to away with the speaker’s Mace.
The 13 ward representatives were summoned together with three sergeant-at-arms and four of those who contested for the speaker’s position. The rift valley EACC regional manager Hassan Khalid ordered the individual appearance of the MCA’s for questioning. At the end of the chaotic election, Nelson Mutai carried the day with 27 votes.
“The commission, pursuant to the constitutional mandate is investigating the incident relating to the conduct of Bomet members of county assembly that accured on August 14 at the assembly chambers during the election of the speaker.” The summon letter read.
