Gachagua: Raila Has Placed Double Chance in Broad-Based Talks

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Azimio leader Raila Odinga of employing what he termed as “cunning double tactics” in the ongoing debate over the proposed broad-based government.

Speaking during a public event on Sunday, the DCP leader claimed that Raila has strategically created two factions within his political camp to maximize influence over President William Ruto’s administration. According to Rigy G, one wing of Raila’s team has been tasked with praising and supporting the Head of State as a way of securing financial and political benefits for him, and that team is being led by none other than minority leader in parliament, Junet Mohamed.

On the flip side, Gachagua alleges that Raila has set up another group led by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, whose role is to attack and criticize President Ruto whenever the government fails to meet the expectations or informal agreements made with the opposition suprimo.

“This is a well-crafted scheme,” Gachagua said. “Raila praises with one hand to get favors, while with the other he sends his people to attack whenever the President does not yield.”

The former Deputy President’s remarks come against a backdrop of heightened debate over the composition and purpose of a broad-based government, a proposal that has attracted both support and criticism on equal measure. While proponents argue that such a government will foster inclusivity and stability, those who stand against the broadbased government warn that it could dilute accountability and encourage political opportunism.

Gachagua’s latest comments signal rising tension between the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and Azimio faction that is led by Raila Odinga, even as talks of political accommodation continue to shape the national political discourse.
