Wamatangi Reads Political Witch-hunt in His Demolished Business

Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi has publicly addressed the destruction of his business property along Douglas Wakiiru Road in Nairobi, previously known as Aerodrome Road, near Nyayo National Stadium. This incident occurred early on Tuesday, January 14, 2026.

The operation primarily focused on car wash facilities owned by Wamatangi and food outlets situated along the corridor, as the area is being cleared for the construction of a train station that will connect the Nairobi Central Business District to Nyayo Stadium and Talanta Stadium along Ngong Road.

In his remarks regarding the demolitions, Governor Wamatangi attributed the significant losses to political motivations, as his carpet cleaning and car wash business was dismantled during the overnight operation.

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Wamatangi stated, “God does not discriminate; He knows everyone’s path and is the one who grants blessings. I began my journey here in 1994 as a young man, selling mandazi and tea across the street. I later started washing cars, and gradually, I grew my business to include car sales.”

The Kiambu County leader emphasized that he has been operating in the same area for decades without disruption, consistently paying lease fees to Kenya Railways. “I have established my life here since I was young. When I arrived, I negotiated a 25-year lease with the Railways, and I pay my dues monthly. The events that unfolded today are politically motivated. I find myself questioning when these political persecutions will cease. I have employed many young people over the years, and I empathize with the small-scale traders who have suffered losses,” he added.

Despite this setback, Wamatangi expressed his determination to recover, stating, “They have done this to me, but I still possess my skills and intellect. I prioritize work over politics.”

The demolished structures are believed to be situated on land owned by Kenya Railways; however, no official explanation had been provided by the authorities at the time of this report.

Images circulating on social media on Tuesday morning depicted extensive destruction, including damage to several vehicles. Distressed traders were seen rummaging through debris, attempting to salvage any recoverable property as they assessed the extent of the damage.

Access within the area was significantly hindered as roads were barricaded with heavy machinery and stones, effectively restricting entry to the affected section. Several properties, including multiple vehicles, sustained severe damage during the overnight demolition operation.
