The legal fraternity in Kenya and residents of Ukwala in Ugenya constituency are mourning the death of senior Lawyer Steven Ruphinus Adere of Adere & Company Advocates who passed suddenly on the morning of 13th March 2021 in Nairobi West Hospital.
Adere was a distinguished advocate of the High Court of Kenya practicing constitutional and human rights law, family law and succession matters, corporate law among others.
The late Adere was one of the most prominent Lawyers hailing from Ukwala in Siaya County. He was admitted in the Bar in 1973 and was among the 90 lawyers who applied to be conferred the prestigious title of Senior Counsel in 2020.
He is also one of the founder members of Kituo Cha Sheria a human rights non-governmental organization founded on 9th July 1973 as Kituo Cha Mashauri by advocates who were committed to helping the disadvantaged and poor people who could not afford the cost of legal services. He was also a Board member of the Advocates Benevolent Association.
Ugenya politician Daniel Juma Omondi who also comes from Ukwala has mourned the late Adere as a distinguished Lawyer who put Ugenya in the world map and inspired upcoming lawyers through his several legal achievements and the high profile cases he argued in court.
The Law Society of Kenya has described Adere as a man who spent his career fighting for the rights of the underprivileged in the society. In a statement signed by the Chairman of LSK Nairobi branch, the Society said they received the news of the passing of Adere with a heavy heart and sadness and wished the family well.
In a Statement signed by the Chairman of the Board Mr. Justus Munyithya and the Executive Director Dr. Annette Mbogoh, Kituo Cha Sheria hailed Adere as one of the lawyers who founded the organisation to provide legal aid assistance to the underprivileged in the society.
The Chairman of the Advocates Benevolent Association Mr. John Oriri Onyango said the death of Adere was a great loss not only to his family but also the entire legal fraternity.
