Two arrested in major drug and alcohol bust in Migori

In a significant crackdown on illegal substances, two suspects were arrested during a successful multi-agency operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

The operation, which took place in the Pandipieri area of Migori County, involved collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and other law enforcement agencies, effectively dismantling a local drug and alcohol syndicate.

Authorities recovered a substantial amount of illegal substances, including 384 rolls and 628 sticks of suspected marijuana, along with 21.5 liters of chang’aa, a locally brewed alcoholic beverage. Further investigations at the suspects’ residence uncovered additional illicit materials: 40 rolls and 230 sticks of suspected cannabis, 1.5 liters of chang’aa, packets of uncustomed cigarettes, and more dry plant material believed to be cannabis. An improvised black smoking device was also seized during the raid.

The suspects were apprehended at a house identified as a key hub for drug trafficking activities. NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, praised the collaborative efforts of the agencies involved. “This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of a coordinated, multi-agency approach in combating the spread of illegal drugs and alcohol. We are dedicated to protecting our communities from the harmful effects of substance abuse,” he stated.

Dr. Omerikwa emphasized NACADA’s zero-tolerance policy toward drugs and alcohol, noting the destructive impact these substances have on lives and families. “We cannot permit our neighborhoods to be overrun by the devastating consequences of substance abuse. These substances tear apart the fabric of society,” he remarked.

The seized items will undergo forensic analysis, and legal action will be pursued against the suspects as investigations continue. NACADA has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “Together, we can create a safer, healthier environment for everyone,” Dr. Omerikwa concluded.
