Spate of Road Accidents Raises Alarm After Cyrus Jirongo’s Death

In less than two days since the tragic death of former Lugari member of parliament and Cabinet Minister, Cyrus Jirongo, a spate of accidents have since been reported across the country.

Yesterday was a gloomy day as one family lost ten people in a single accident Chabera area, in Kisumu – Kisii road. The passenger service vehicle (PSV) had been hired to ferry people from a wedding Kakamega.

Before the dust could settle, another grisly road accident occurred today at the infamous Salgaa — an area known as the most dangerous black spot in Kenya. The accident at Salgaa involved a bus belonging to Easy coach company with a trailer. Eye witnesses reported that the two vehicles came to head on collision but the casualties were not immediately reported.

The government, through the National Transport Authority (NTSA) has urged road users to be vigilant especially during these festive seasons. Accidents have always been rampant during Christmas festivities, and many families do lose their loved ones due to careless driving, and sometimes even drunk-driving.
