UDA–ODM Extend NADCO Oversight Committee Mandate by 60 Days

The Joint Parliamentary Group of the United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement has decided to extend the mandate of the 10-point NADCO Oversight Committee by 60 days.

In a statement released on Tuesday, ODM explained that this extension will allow the committee to address outstanding issues related to the implementation of its broad-based agenda.

The meeting at KICC included 253 Members of Parliament from both Kenya Kwanza and ODM. The statement confirmed the extension to help finalize pending matters from the agenda’s implementation.

Participants reviewed the progress made over the past year, receiving an update on the 10-point agenda agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties.

The joint PG expressed satisfaction, noting that approximately 80 percent of the commitments have been fulfilled.

The meeting reiterated that the Memorandum is based on a 10-point agenda, primarily derived from the National Dialogue Committee’s recommendations, focusing on electoral reforms, the cost of living, governance, economic stability, and institutional reforms.

Members acknowledged the partnership’s significant contribution to political stability and its role in fostering an environment conducive to expanding economic opportunities, especially for youth, while enhancing effective economic management.

Further advancements in stabilizing the economy and addressing the cost of living included reduced inflation, ongoing fertilizer subsidies for farmers, expanded health coverage under the Social Health Authority, strengthened anti-corruption measures, and the revival of stalled road projects through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund.

Additionally, the Joint PG agreed to form a Joint Technical Committee, with each party nominating four members, and the respective Executive Directors serving as joint secretaries.

This committee will establish the foundation for a shared policy agenda and priorities, guiding a coalition team appointed by party leaders for the final coalition framework.

The Joint Parliamentary Group reaffirmed its dedication to ongoing cooperation in the national interest, focusing on advancing reforms to strengthen Kenya’s democracy, stabilize the economy, and enhance the livelihoods of its citizens.
