Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has sharply criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of hindering development in the county.
During a rally in Kisumu on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Atandi asserted that Siaya County has stagnated under Orengo’s leadership, arguing that public resources have failed to yield significant progress.
As he referenced the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisumu on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Atandi urged Orengo to prioritize development in Siaya rather than addressing residents in Kisumu.
“The organizer of this meeting in Kisumu is James Orengo, who exemplifies failure in devolution. Siaya County is no longer thriving; there is no progress,” Atandi stated.
Questioning Orengo’s significance in regional politics, the MP encouraged Kisumu residents to demand accountability from the governor, urging him to return to Siaya to foster development.
“Someone who has failed in Siaya has no message for the people of Kisumu. There is nothing new that James Orengo can offer here,” Atandi remarked. “We want you to tell James Orengo, when he arrives on Sunday, to focus on development in Siaya.”
Atandi further emphasized the political alignment between regional leaders and President William Ruto, describing their relationship as robust and unwavering. He referenced a recent meeting at State House with regional leaders and the President.
“Our collaboration with President William Ruto is strong and unshakable. You witnessed our leaders visiting State House to discuss zoning and other important matters,” he explained.
Atandi called on Kisumu residents to remain peaceful and committed to development as the Linda Mwananchi team prepares for its visit on Sunday. He expressed that his presence in the region aligns with his broader mission to engage citizens on development priorities and gather insights for national budgeting.
“I am here today in Kisumu to share information about development projects that will transform the city. Part of my role is to listen to the people and gather ideas for the budget,” he stated.
Babu Owino, a key figure in the movement, affirmed that the faction will proceed with their peaceful rally as scheduled, asserting that intimidation will not deter leaders from addressing essential national issues.
“Our group remains dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of all Kenyans, regardless of the opposition we face. Whether we attend the rally or not, we face attacks. Nevertheless, we will head to Kisumu on Sunday, April 26. We welcome everyone; we will not shy away from participating,” Babu Owino declared.
