Rozy Amimo Mourns Late Radio Icon Festus Amimo in Heartfelt Tribute

The late Luo radio icon’s widow, Rozy Amimo, has given a sombre account of her experiences following the sudden death of her husband, Festus Amimo, who passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

On Thursday, December 11, during a visit of politicians to their Awasi home in Kisumu County, Rozy provided a glimpse into the kind of man her late husband was.

Amimo died on the morning of Monday after collapsing in a hotel within Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Amimo, who until his death was head of Radio at KBC’s Mayienga FM, left their home in good health as they said their final goodbyes on that fateful day that ultimately proved to be their last moment together.

She reminisced about the good times she had with the veteran producer and broadcaster, highlighting his ambitious plans for the upcoming year.

The veteran presenter was also shown to be a man driven by unyielding perseverance, with a strong focus on achieving his goals.

Festus proved to be a trusted companion. I had a close friend who would stand by you until the end; if he set his mind to something, he would always guarantee his success in it. He had many plans for December and for the following year, but God kept changing his plans, she said.

Experiencing life for a day.

Rozy explained how the tragic death had affected her and altered her outlook on life. From now on, she intends to live each and every day as it comes.

“Festus’ death has shown me that I should live for the present and never take any day for granted.” He departed the house at 2 pm for an event and had inquired of me what we would be eating later in the day, a question that I habitually respond to with “I don’t know much,” much to his displeasure.

Sudden demise

The well-known presenter, often remembered as Woud Amimo, is expected to be buried this Friday, December 12, 2025, at his family home in Awasi.

The journalist’s unexpected death caught the media community off guard, with politicians who knew him also reacting with deep disappointment at his passing.

Among them is Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, who called on the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to investigate the increasing number of Kenyans dying from cardiac arrests.
