The recent visit by Azimio chief Raila Odinga at pastor Ezakiel’s residence was political, and not just a mere visit.
Many people have castigated the move by Raila, in the same manner many have applauded it. It all depends on which side of the political sides suits you best.
Pastor Ezakiel had been roped in on the ongoing court case where another controversial pastor, Mackenzie, is being suspected of having been involved in human trafficking and many other crimes.
However, when the police’s noose reached at Ezakiel’s residence, all hell broke loose, and Kenyans, as usual, started to read politics in every move that the police made. Things went from bad to worse when the police zeroed in on Ezakiel rather than concentrating on the main culprit, pastor Mackenzie.
Kenyans, especially those who are Azimio diehards, thought that pastor Ezakiel is being targeted by the government because he is a Luo. Far from it. Another theory also crept up that government had seen many wealth that the controversial preacher had, and therefore wanted to have some of it. I don’t know how true that would be…
Then came the Raila visit. This is what changed everything. His visit at Ezakiel’s residence was the final nail on the coffin of those who had rubbished that politics was in play. In fact, the Azimio supremo had also said it earlier that pastor Ezakiel Odero was innocent (it is not clear how the leader arrived at that conclusion).
People in social media started airing their opinions on his visit at Ezakiel’s residence, saying that ‘Ezakiel ni mweupe kama pamba’, loosely translated as ‘pastor Ezakiel is as white as cotton wool’. To them, anything that Raila approves is as good as Caesar’s wife.
That is the reason why politics will always take a special space in the hearts of many Kenyans.
