The late UON Prof. Okoth Okombo honoured by Google doodle

Google has honoured legendary professor Okoth Okombo with a doodle.

Okoth who would be celebrating his 71st birthday is remembered for introducing Kenya sign language.

Okoth also wrote several books used in primary school one being Masira kindaki. He also championed for the protection of his native suba language.

The doodle created by Kenyan artist Joe Baraka appeared on Google’s homepage in Kenya and coincided with what would have been the late scholar’s 71st birthday.

Okombo is regarded as one of the founders of the scientific study of sign language in Africa and a distinguished scholar in the field of Nilotic language studies.
