Calls for the resignation of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja have intensified as leaders express growing dissatisfaction with his handling of the surge in abduction cases across the country.
Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Korere and Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli have openly criticized the government’s failure to effectively address the alarming rise in kidnappings.
In a stern statement, MP Korere urged IG Kanja to ensure due process is followed in dealing with suspects. “If someone has broken the law, they should be arrested and charged in court. There is no justice in taking someone’s child without providing clarity on whether they are alive or dead,” she said.
The leaders emphasized the importance of supporting the government in delivering services to Kenyans but condemned the mishandling of security matters, which they argue has eroded public trust. They also warned against attempts by certain political leaders to divide Kenyans along tribal lines, stating that such actions threaten the peace and unity the country has enjoyed for years.
“We cannot allow divisive politics to undermine the stability of our nation. The government must act decisively to address these security challenges and unite Kenyans,” added MP Sunkuli.
As the pressure on IG Douglas Kanja continues to grow, many Kenyans are calling for urgent reforms in the police service to restore confidence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
