Uhuru declares 3 Days national Mourning over Mkapa

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent his condolence message to the people of Tanzania  following the death of former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa who passed on yesterday.  Kenyatta described the late Mkapa as a statesman who worked tirelessly for the integration, peace and progress of the region and declared a 3 – day National mourning  beginning Monday 27.

“In recognition of this immense loss and tragedy, and as a show of our National respect for the fallen African Giant, I have issued a presidential proclamation announcing that the Republic of Kenya shall observe 3 days of National mourning throughout the entire territory of our Country”. President Kenyatta said.

The president asdded in his statement that Kenyans and East African Community flags will fly at half – mast, during the period of mourning Benjamin Mkapa.   Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the retired president Mwai Kibaki also eulogized Mkapa, who passed on at the age of 81, Friday 24.
