President Ruto Reflects on Progress and challenges in New Year’s Address

In a heartfelt New Year’s Eve address delivered from Kisii State Lodge, President William Ruto expressed his gratitude to the people of Kenya while reflecting on the challenges and progress of the past year.

As Kenyans welcomed 2025, he emphasized the government’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and enhancing the nation’s prosperity.

President Ruto began his speech by acknowledging the remarkable year that 2024 had been, filled with both challenges and opportunities. “This year has tested our resolve and threatened our prosperity, security, and happiness,” he stated. However, he also highlighted the successes achieved through hard work and determination.

The President addressed the economic difficulties faced by many Kenyans, citing global shocks that increased the cost of living and disrupted supply chains. He recognized the struggles families faced, particularly in light of the harsh drought and subsequent floods that devastated crops and livelihoods.

Despite these hurdles, Ruto assured citizens that the government has been working tirelessly to fulfill its commitments. He reported steady progress in food security, with rising productivity across key agricultural sectors. “We are making steady progress in feeding the nation,” he remarked, noting the efforts to enhance food security objectives.

The President also highlighted significant advancements in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure. He announced the rollout of universal healthcare coverage, known as Taifa Care, and detailed initiatives to improve school infrastructure and job creation through the affordable housing program, which is set to produce 873,000 housing units.

Emphasizing the importance of transparency and efficiency in public resource management, Ruto acknowledged the public’s demand for accountability. He pledged to continue engaging in meaningful conversations with citizens to ensure inclusivity and social justice in government actions.

In terms of security, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety. He noted the enhanced capabilities of security services, which have been crucial in addressing various threats, including terrorism and cybercrime.
