“Politics is not a place for retirement” Orengo tells Charles Owino

Siaya Senator James Orengo has told the Deputy Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons Mr. Charles Owino that politics is not a place for retirement and urged him to go slow on his quest for Siaya gubernatorial seat.

Orengo was responding to Owino who had earlier on used the same stage to criticize him for abandoning Raila Odinga to vie for Siaya gubernatorial race.

Speaking at a burial in Ugenya the Siaya senator cautioned locals against electing people who have not been tried and tested, adding that the current politics needed brave leaders and added “You don’t just come to politics because you want to retire, you must be tried and tested.”

This was a direct attack by the Senator to the former police spokesman who announced early this year that he will be retiring from his job to vie for the Siaya gubernatorial seat come 2022.

After the police spokesman had made the announcement, he was transferred to his current position as Deputy Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

“Politics is very tricky, unlike government jobs, there is defeat, victory and all manner of things.” said Orengo and called for peaceful campaigns to allow Siaya voters to decide who will take after Rasanga.
