Former police spokesman who is currently the Deputy Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons Charles Owino has advised Siaya Senator James Orengo to quit the Siaya County gubernatorial race and instead assist ODM leader Raila Odinga clinch the presidency in next year’s elections.
Speaking last Saturday at a funeral in Ugenya, Owino said that it was laughable that Orengo, a national politician, who is supposed to play a key role in Odinga’s campaigns ahead of 2022 polls was also interested in Siaya governor seat.
Owino termed Orengo’s candidature a betrayal to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s State House bid adding that the Senato’s candidature will be a vote of no confidence against Odinga’s 2022 stab at the presidency and maybe fodder for his opponents.
“If Orengo believes Odinga is going to win the presidency, he must stick with him until he wins so that he can be the Attorney General or a Cabinet Secretary in that government,” said Owino.
Coincidentally Owino is not the only one who thinks Senator Orengo should not vie for Siaya Senatorial seat. Technical University of Kenya don Dr. Vincent Ongore thinks Orengo is too big for the county position. “I would wish to see James serve a higher calling than being Governor. In all honesty and love, the Governor position should be left to Wandayi, Gumbo and Owino to fight over”.
