
The Cabinet has approved the formation of a presidential working group aimed at developing a comprehensive approach to tackle femicide.
This group will engage religious leaders, parents, schools, and security agencies to identify legal and social gaps contributing to the crisis. The team is expected to deliver actionable recommendations within 90 days.
In addition, the Cabinet approved the Assumption of Office of President and Transition of Executive Authority Bill, 2024, designed to streamline presidential transitions. The proposed law consolidates procedures and introduces stricter penalties for officials obstructing the process.
To improve public transport in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, the Cabinet greenlit the implementation of the Clean Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System. The initial phase, covering 12.4 km from Kenyatta National Hospital to Dandora, aims to transport 357,000 passengers daily by 2035 using electric buses.
Furthermore, the Cabinet endorsed the University of Nairobi Transformation Strategy to address financial challenges and restore academic excellence. This strategy includes initiatives focused on Green Jobs, Innovation, and Health Research.
Lastly, the extension of the Government-to-Government arrangement for importing refined petroleum products has stabilized the shilling-dollar exchange rate and reduced fuel prices.
President Ruto thanked the Cabinet for their efforts, highlighting gains in food production, housing, and tourism, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to transformation for all Kenyans.
