There was drama at Milimani Law courts this afternoon when police denied Babu Owino’s supporters an access to see the Embakasi East MP.
The embattled legislature was nabbed on Tuesday night at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ((JKIA) by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers on the grounds that he had had unlawful assembly and also, the crime of subversion, in regards to his role in the ongoing opposition-led anti-government protests.
According to his, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, the police have act in total violation of the constitution by not granting them permission to see his client.
“I can confirm that my client Babu Owino is held at the police area in Nairobi. The police have refused to allow us access to the police station. They have blocked us even as lawyers,” Ndegwa said.
“We have a right to see our client. He has a right to be represented even in that particular police station. They have completely refused and have not told him why he’s being arrested.”
