Paul Ngeno Dies Days After Gachagua Pledged to Clear KSh1.8M Hospital Bill

Paul Ngeno, the brother of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno, has sadly passed away shortly after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited the family home in Mogondo.

Ngeno had been receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), where his medical expenses reached Ksh1.8 million, as reported by the family.

His passing came soon after his mother, Mary Temas, earnestly appealed to Gachagua for assistance in settling the hospital bill to facilitate her son’s discharge.

In a heartfelt statement shared by Bernard Ngeno, a former personal assistant to the late Johanna Ngeno and an unsuccessful candidate for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat in the recent by-election, he extended his condolences to the grieving family.

“Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the family of Arap Temas for the loss of Paul Ngeno, the brother of the late Hon. Johanna Ngeno,” Bernard expressed. “We send our deepest sympathies to Mama Mary and the entire family.”

Paul passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, shortly after Gachagua’s visit to their home in Mogondo.

During the visit, Mary earnestly requested assistance from the former deputy president to address the mounting hospital bill, which had reached KSh1.8 million.

Gachagua committed to covering the bill, expressing frustration over the government’s failure to support the family despite prior promises made during Johanna Ngeno’s burial.

The former MP tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in the Mosop area on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Gachagua voiced his concerns regarding the government’s unfulfilled commitments to the family, highlighting the need for accountability.

In response to Mary’s request, Gachagua promised to settle Paul’s hospital expenses, emphasizing the importance of his release as the only remaining son of Mary Temas.

Mary also requested Gachagua’s assistance in constructing a mausoleum, noting that the government had previously pledged to build one but had not followed through. She expressed her concerns about her late son Johanna’s grave being exposed to the elements.

Gachagua agreed to support the mausoleum’s construction and encouraged Mary to design the structure according to her vision before he facilitated its realization.

Additionally, the former deputy president committed to providing ongoing support for Mary, assisting with her medical expenses and daily needs.
