Opposition leaders want National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to explain his last meeting with Cyrus Jirongo. Rigathi Gachagua leads the group from the Democracy for the Citizens Party. The meeting took place hours before Jirongo’s death.
After visiting Jirongo’s home in Nairobi on December 16, 2025, they talked to the media. They call for a fast and full investigation. Gachagua wonders why people with Jirongo in Karen that night stay silent.
Kenyans want to know the last people seen with Cyrus Jirongo. Why do they not speak? They were friends he trusted. Gachagua asked these questions.
We have not heard a clear story from them. Speaker Wetang’ula should explain well. What were his plans? Where was he headed? What happened? Others with him must give details too.
Gachagua links Jirongo’s death to J.M. Kariuki’s killing. That politician died in March 1975. Many see it as a political murder. The case is still unsolved.
Wetang’ula already described the meeting. He met the former Lugari MP on December 12 evening. It came after Jamhuri Day events.
Cyrus Jirongo called me. He said, Papa, let’s meet. Wetang’ula recalled.
The Speaker met him from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Then he left to rest. He had a trip to Mazeras the next day. I told him I need rest for travel. Wetang’ula said.
He learned of the death next morning from phone messages. This morning I saw texts: Sorry, Jirongo died. He shared.
Leaders push for quick probe. The crash hit early December 13 on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. Jirongo’s car smashed into a bus near Karai. DCI says first checks point to that night. Social media buzzes with talk of scene changes.
During the visit, Eugene Wamalwa joined. So did JB Muturi, Senators Cleo Malala and Gloria Orwoba, and more. They urge President Ruto to speed up DCI work. They want bus passengers to speak too.
Kalonzo Musyoka calls Jirongo brave and firm. His family needs truth. Kenyans need answers. Before burial on December 30, do a full, open probe. Kalonzo posted on X.
Investigators check CCTV. They take statements from people Jirongo met before the crash. This includes a Karen Oasis Bar group. Early video shows him at Eagol Petrol Station at 2:18 am. He turned back to Nairobi. Then the bus hit.
Jirongo was 64. He gained fame in 1992. He led Youth for KANU 92. The group backed Daniel arap Moi in Kenya’s first multi-party vote.
