MP Didmus Barasa faces a 24hours debt ultimatum or a 6months jail term.

Kimilili Member of Parliament , Didmus Barasa had been ordered to pay a 1.8 million legal fee debt to Alfred Ndambiri, a city lawyer by the end of Tuesday 23rd November 2020, or face a jail term of 6 months.

This comes after the October 9th 2020 ruling by Senior Resident Magistrate Kivuti that had ordered MP Barasa back in court on the 24th of November 2020. According to the ruling Barasa is set to get a 6months jail term if he will not have cleared the debt by then.

Barasa is said to have petitioned for clemency several times with promise to clear the debt ,which he has apparently not lived up to till to date.

In his last case adjournment Magistrate Kivuti gave him 45 days to clear the debt despite Barasa having have pleaded for a 90days grace period, claiming to be in self-isolation as a result of contracting Covid-19.

Lawyer Alfred Ndambiri had represented MP Didmus in an election petition case filled against him by Former Kimilili Member of Parliament Suleiman Muranga in 2017.

MP Didmus won the petition due to lack of sufficient evidence to quash Barasa’s victory.
