Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has publicly criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for allegedly neglecting the Meru community, despite their support in the 2022 elections.
In a video seen by Nyanza Daily, Linturi expressed the community’s frustration, stating they feel disrespected and overlooked.
“We are tired of being looked down upon and treated as if we are insignificant. Our 800,000 votes must count, and we are now smarter than before. We believed in this coalition, but the disrespect has increased,” he declared.
Linturi warned that the Meru people have learned from their past experiences and will not repeat the same mistakes. He emphasized that Meru leaders are committed to restoring the region’s dignity and will work tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard.
He further noted that while other communities may have formal agreements with the government, the Meru community accepted their partnership without any written commitments. “If this respect is not sufficient, we are wiser now,” he asserted.
Linturi’s statements reflect a growing discontent within the Meru community, as they demand recognition and respect from the current administration. As the next election approaches, Linturi pledged to mobilize efforts to reclaim the region’s “glory” and ensure that their votes are valued.
