The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a two-week closure of a section of the Southern Bypass starting Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 8 PM, until Sunday, January 5, 2025, at midnight. This closure will affect both sides of the road from the Ole Sereni Interchange to the Ngong Road Interchange.
The reason for the closure is to facilitate the rehabilitation of expansion joints on all bridges within the affected area, as well as to reconstruct the concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge. During this period, all traffic will be diverted through Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, and Ngong Road.
KeNHA has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to the traffic management plan in place. Drivers are advised to cooperate with police and traffic marshals present at the work sites.

This announcement follows discussions by KeNHA regarding a potential tolling policy for key roads, including the Southern Bypass and the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway, which will be introduced after public consultation.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays during the rehabilitation works.
