Wajir West MP Yusuf Mohamed Farah has passionately encouraged residents to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election campaign for the 2027 General Election, highlighting the significant development initiatives underway in Northern Kenya.
During a recent community gathering in Wajir West Constituency, Yusuf emphasized that the Kenya Kwanza administration has launched various impactful projects in the region, including affordable housing and housing developments for police officers.
“It is crucial to consider the national leadership. President William Ruto has made substantial contributions to Northern Kenya and Wajir. Let’s provide him the opportunity to fulfill the commitments his administration has initiated,” Yusuf stated.
He also urged young people to register as voters in large numbers, empowering them to actively participate in the upcoming elections.
“Our political landscape should foster unity, not division. It is vital for us to coexist peacefully and ensure every citizen has the chance to engage in the democratic process. I particularly call upon our youth to register as voters in significant numbers,” he expressed.
Yusuf’s remarks came as the Rebkey Omar community, a segment of the larger Rerow Mahmoud group, expressed their support for his re-election in the 2027 General Election.
This endorsement emerged during a gathering that included elders, religious leaders, women, youth, and other community members, who recognized his dedication to development and engagement throughout his first term.
Mzee Shale, one of the speakers, noted that the community carefully evaluated Yusuf’s record before endorsing his candidacy.
“We have witnessed the positive impact Yusuf has made in Wajir West. True leadership reflects what reaches the people, and we believe he has shown unwavering commitment to our constituency’s growth,” Shale remarked.
Jelle Bute emphasized that the endorsement represents a collective decision by the Rebkey Omar community and called on other communities in Wajir West to lend their support to the MP.
“This is a united voice from our community. We have endorsed Yusuf Mohamed Farah as our candidate, and we invite other communities in Wajir West to join us in supporting him for a second term,” Bute stated.
Mzee Muhumed stressed the importance of continuity in development, advocating for the completion of ongoing projects.
“Achieving development requires a steady course. Where projects have already begun, we must ensure their completion for the benefit of our people. This is why we believe Yusuf deserves another term,” Muhumed explained.
Mama Halima urged residents to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence as political activities ramp up ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our political discourse should unite us rather than create divisions. While we have endorsed Yusuf, we also envision all communities in Wajir West collaborating. The upcoming elections should focus on development, unity, and the future of our people,” she remarked.
Yusuf secured the Wajir West parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election on an ODM ticket, overcoming his main challenger, Ahmed Kolosh.
Kolosh has since risen as a prominent political figure in Wajir County, vying for the gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, which adds complexity to the political landscape within the larger Rerow Mahmoud community.
Yusuf expressed gratitude to the Rebkey Omar community for their endorsement but recognized the need to broaden his appeal to the wider Wajir West electorate.
“While we have received the endorsement from our community, Wajir West encompasses more than one group. It is essential for us to engage and seek support from every community,” he stated.
This endorsement comes ahead of a Rerow Mahmoud delegates’ meeting scheduled for September 17, 2026, in Hadado, where delegates will discuss the community’s preferred candidate for the Wajir West parliamentary seat.
The outcomes of this meeting could significantly shape political dynamics within the constituency as the 2027 General Election approaches.
During the gathering, Yusuf highlighted ongoing projects such as the tarmacking of Hadado and Griftu towns, the Shandurwa feedlot initiative, and bursary support for needy students, showcasing his achievements during his first term.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Rebkey Omar community and the entire Wajir West populace for their trust in me. I have fulfilled my responsibilities during my first term, but there remains more to accomplish. I am seeking another opportunity to complete the projects in progress and deliver even greater benefits to our people,” Yusuf concluded.
