Mbagathi County Referral Hospital, in partnership with the Social Health Authority (SHA), has launched a specialized surgical camp aimed at providing life-changing hernia treatments to patients in need. The initiative, which focuses on both children and adults, is already making a significant impact, with an average of 10 surgeries performed daily.
According to Dr. Alexander Irungu, the hospital’s CEO, the camp has successfully booked 120 patients for hernia procedures, including herniotomies for children and hernioplasties for adults. “Through our collaboration with SHA, we are able to cover the costs of these surgeries while also assisting patients in registering and understanding the benefits of the Social Health Authority,” Dr. Irungu explained.
The SHA is playing a crucial role in the initiative by overseeing the registration process and ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care before, during, and after their surgeries. This streamlined approach has enhanced the efficiency of service delivery, allowing more patients to access timely and affordable treatment.
Dr. Irungu emphasized Mbagathi hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare under the leadership of Governor Sakaja Johnson. “This surgical camp reflects our dedication to improving the health and well-being of our community. Our partnership with SHA has been instrumental in making this initiative a success,” he said.
Hernias, a common yet often debilitating condition, can significantly impact a patient’s quality of life if left untreated. The specialized camp is bringing much-needed relief to those suffering from the condition, offering accessible and affordable surgical solutions.
The initiative has been widely praised for its focus on addressing a critical healthcare need while ensuring that patients are well-informed and supported throughout the process. As the camp continues, it is expected to transform the lives of many more individuals, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing healthcare services.
