Police in Bondo sub-county have initiated an investigation into the suspected mauling death of a 27-year-old man, Stephen Lilungo, in Rabonde ‘A’ village, Ajigo sub-location.
Lilungo, who worked as a home guard, was reportedly attacked and killed by his employer’s dogs a few days ago.
According to Bondo sub-county Criminal Investigations Officer Reuben Onchoka, Lilungo was employed by Ken Were Miseda and was responsible for the care of the dogs. Following reports from Miseda’s neighbors, police visited the scene and discovered only a skeleton believed to belong to Lilungo.
Onchoka confirmed that the police have summoned Miseda, a Veterinary Officer, to provide a statement regarding the incident.
Assistant Chief of Ajigo sub-location Stephen Aluoch noted that Lilungo, a resident of Kakamega, had recently been hired to tend to the dogs at Miseda’s home, where he trades in hybrid dogs. The grim discovery was made on Saturday evening when Miseda, who was in Eldoret, sent a friend to check on Lilungo after failing to reach him by phone since Thursday.
Upon arrival, the friend was alarmed to find the dogs running loose and Lilungo missing. This prompted him to alert officers from the Lwala Kotiende police station. Upon searching the premises, the officers located the skeleton believed to be Lilungo’s.
The remains have since been transferred to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as investigations continue into this tragic incident. The community is left in shock as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Lilungo’s untimely death.
