The Kiswahili saying “Ukistaajabu ya Musa, utaona ya Firauni” has become a reality in Kaseveni village, located in Kathiani Constituency, Machakos County.
This unfolding drama began when a neighbor’s dog led security agencies to one of the most shocking murder scenes in the area. Initially, residents thought the dog was carrying a cow’s leg when it returned home.
On Sunday, July 6, 2026, a local TV station reported that the dog had wandered into a nearby thicket before returning with what was later identified as a human leg, prompting curious residents to follow its path.
This search culminated in the tragic discovery of the bodies of a 28-year-old woman, her two children, and her unborn baby, as reports indicated that the woman was approximately seven months pregnant.
Police are actively investigating these murders, with a 23-year-old man emerging as a person of interest.
Residents shared that this individual had married the 28-year-old woman and was recently permitted to stay with her two children, who were not his biological kids. The bodies were discovered on June 15, 2026.
Kathiani Sub-County police commander George Kashmir reported that the bodies were found separately by members of the public in Wandathe village on Sunday evening, who promptly alerted the Kathiani police station.
The community suspects that these tragic deaths may have resulted from a mass killing by unknown assailants.
“A resident reported to the station that a child’s leg had been found in the village. The report indicated that the child appeared to be between six and eight years old. The man explained that his dogs had discovered and were eating the leg at his home,” Kashmir stated.
In a gripping account, Benjamin Kikuvi, the dog’s owner, shared the moment that changed everything.
“When we went to cut grass, we returned to find the dog holding what I thought was a cow’s leg, only to realize it was a child’s leg. You know how dogs are; when they go hunting in the bushes, they bring back whatever they find,” Kikuvi recounted.
Village elder Simon Mbuvi described the crime scene as horrifying, noting that some bodies appeared to have been exposed to acid.
Another elder, Mbuvi, remarked that this incident stands out as one of the most disturbing events the village has ever experienced.
Resident Benson Mutinda added that some of the victims’ private parts had been mutilated.
Family members of the person of interest, including his sister Annastazia Wambua, shared their concerns. She recounted how she encouraged her brother to go to Kathiani Police Station after their mother was taken into custody to assist investigators.
“On Thursday night, our mother was arrested. That night, I asked my brother about it. On Friday, I let him go out. After work, I asked again, ‘Are you sure, my brother, that this isn’t true?’ He said he didn’t know anything,” Annastazia explained.
“I suggested that since our mother was arrested, it would be wise to go to Kathiani Police Station so we wouldn’t face any repercussions; let’s go help our mother get out of there,” she added.
The person of interest’s father, Ezekiel Wambua, also shared his conversation with his wife after learning of her arrest.
“When I called my wife for clarification, she mentioned that their young child had said it seemed like those people had gone to their home. From that point on, she was unsure. I asked her why she hadn’t called me,” Wambua recounted.
As investigations continue, police have not yet revealed the motive behind these tragic killings, leaving Kaseveni village in a state of shock.
