The Legio Maria Church has called on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to work closely with President William Ruto.
This, the sect urged, would foster inclusivity and harmony among all communities in Kenya.
In a recent statement, Rt. Rev. Wycliffe Nyaperah, the Bishop of Thika Diocese and director of youth affairs, expressed confidence in Kindiki’s ability to support the President in uniting the nation and enhancing both local and international relations.
“Engage with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to promote reconciliation, brotherhood, and cooperation,” he urged. “Also, help strengthen the relationship between President William Ruto and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure Kenya’s prosperity and stability.”
Nyaperah emphasized that Kindiki’s leadership will be crucial in fostering collaboration and harmony nationwide.
“As you take on this vital role, I encourage you to lead with integrity and compassion. Although there are challenges ahead, I am confident your commitment to unity and the common good will guide your decisions,” he added.
He further advised Kindiki to focus on service delivery and economic improvement for all Kenyans, cautioning him to steer clear of divisive politics.
Kindiki was sworn into office on Friday after the court lifted an injunction that had delayed his inauguration due to legal challenges from his predecessor.
The inauguration ceremony, which drew diplomats and thousands of guests, was held on a day declared a public holiday for the event.
The Senate had voted to remove Gachagua from office on October 18, citing charges of constitutional violations and incitement of ethnic hatred—allegations Gachagua denies and claims are politically driven.
Kenya’s High Court initially delayed Kindiki’s inauguration after Gachagua and his supporters filed over 30 legal petitions against his dismissal. However, the injunction was lifted on Thursday, with judges ruling that the deputy president’s position should not remain vacant, as per the constitution.
