Kisumu Governor Nyong’o condemns killing of student

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has condemned the police for the killing of a Maseno University student during Monday’s anti-government demonstrations in the lakeside city.

The third-year student William Mayange, was shot in the neck during the protests called by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition and was pronounced dead on arrival at Coptic Hospital. 

According to the police, Mayange was among a group of students who invaded Maseno police line during the demonstrations, prompting the officers to use live bullets to disperse the rowdy youths.

Governor Nyong’o has termed the termed the incident unfortunate, saying the police officer was not justified to shoot the literature student.

As a result of the shooting, Maseno University students took to the streets Tuesday morning to protest the killing.
