Azimio La Umoja coalition party is under threat, as Kenya Kwanza side is busy luring their (Azimio) Members of Parliament.
The trend to hijack Members of Parliament allied to the opposition coalition has been gaining momentum day by day since the supreme court confirmed President William Ruto’s victory. The latest attempt to lure Azimio leaders was seen in the recent meeting between (DP) Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Mt Kenya Azimio members Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege, among others.
The two leaders (Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega) were seen as Raila Odinga’s point men in Mt Kenya region during the electioneering period. Other Azimio members who attended the meeting by the DP were MPs David Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), Irene Njoki (Bahati), Zachary Kwenya (Kinangop), Shadrack Mwiti (Imenti South), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Dan Karitho (Igembe Central), Stanley Muthama (Lamu West) and Joseph Githuku (Lamu).
The meeting came at a point when Azimio leaders have, of late, come out to castigate the Kenya Kwanza side of meeting with leaders associated with the opposition coalition to be backing government-sponsored bills. Currently, after ‘poarching’ Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng – among others, Kenya Kwanza side has 179 MPs against Azimio’s 157, meaning the ruling alliance has no absolute majority in Parliament.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, a member of the Azimio coalition side, said that Kenya Kwanza side needs to focus on delivering on its campaign pledges, “instead of engaging in endless sideshows,” The Senator added that poaching is by the ruling coalition was archaic.
