Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has directed his ire at the government following an invasion of a prayer meeting organized by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri County when Maina Njenga and a group of youths disrupted the gathering, ultimately forcing Pastor Dorcas to leave.
In a defense of his wife, Gachagua took to social media platform X to accuse the State of orchestrating the chaos, labeling Njenga as a gang leader intent on inciting disorder. He stated, “Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any Government can go no matter the level of desperation.”
This altercation unfolds amid escalating political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region, following Gachagua’s recent impeachment from his high-ranking position. He has since launched an aggressive campaign against both the State and President William Ruto, urging local residents to remain cautious as the 2027 General Election approaches.
Njenga’s reappearance on the political scene after Gachagua’s ousting has fueled speculation that he may be positioning himself to influence the vote-rich region in favor of President Ruto. However, the former Mungiki leader has rejected assertions of being Ruto’s new ally in Central Kenya.
Speaking to Hot 96 on January 13, Njenga emphasized, “I am aligning with Kenyans. Right now we want unity. I was an Azimio person.” He further dismissed Gachagua’s accusations, stating, “He (Gachagua) wants to take me to The Hague yet he is toothless. That is just yapping.”
