Kasmuel McOure’s appearance with President Ruto draws mixed reactions

Political activist Kasmuel McOure’s recent appearance alongside President William Ruto in Eldoret has sparked a wave of mixed reactions on social media.

The young Gen Z leader joined President Ruto and Uasin Gishu politicians for a church service at African Inland Church (A.I.C) Kipkorgot on Sunday, December 22, where he was welcomed by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.

McOure rose to prominence earlier this year as a vocal advocate in the Gen Z-led protests against the government. His opposition to the Kenya Kwanza administration garnered him substantial support among young activists. However, a recent meeting with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga led to his official joining of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), surprising many.

His appearance with Ruto has drawn sharp criticism from his peers, with accusations of abandoning the movement’s ideals for alignment with the ruling Kenya Kwanza government. Prominent activist Morara Kebaso expressed disappointment, asking, “Kasmuel, why? Aren’t these the same people who harmed Gen Z protesters in June?”

Others, like activist Ratemo Kevin, argue that McOure’s engagement with the government could lead to accountability, while critics label him a traitor. Social media users have voiced their concerns, questioning McOure’s motives, with some suggesting financial gain may be influencing his decisions.

As debates continue, McOure’s political trajectory remains a topic of contention within the Gen Z community.
