Kalonzo criticizes Ruto’s Government, threatens nationwide Protests

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sharply criticized President William Ruto for including allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in his administration, labeling it a “blood-based dictatorship.” Speaking at a wedding in Kusyomomo, Machakos County, Kalonzo dismissed Ruto’s calls for unity as insincere, stating, “The Kenya Kwanza regime is not broad-based; it’s not even bread-based. It’s a blood-based dictatorship.”

Kalonzo also threatened to lead nationwide demonstrations if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not reconstituted by March 2025. He emphasized the urgency of appointing commissioners, as the commission has been without leadership for nearly two years, hindering crucial electoral reforms. “I will lead demos by March if the IEBC is not in place,” he warned.

At the same event, Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa criticized Ruto’s controversial university funding model, which has been declared unconstitutional by the courts. Wamalwa accused the government of implementing policies detrimental to ordinary Kenyans.

Both leaders have ramped up their criticism of Ruto’s administration, citing broken promises and poor governance. Their remarks reflect growing political tensions as the government faces increasing scrutiny from opposition figures and civil society groups.
