Homabay County governor Gladys Wanga has appointed lawyer Frederick Orego who used to be her lawyer as Homabay County attorney.
Orego served as the governor’s lawyer in the last court case where former Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero contested governor Glady Wanga’s 2022 election win as the County boss. Before that, Mr Orego was the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) chairman of appeals tribunal during the party primaries.
His role was to listen to and address disputes in how the nomination exercise was conducted in the Orange party when two or more politicians claimed to have been short-changed.
Many people, especially those who were supporting Dr Evans Kidero, felt that the appointment of Mr Frederick Orego as the County’s is just a reward of the governor’s ‘top ally’ after successfully defending the governor in court.
Oregon’s top responsibility at the county offices will be to address legal matters affecting the county, including – and not limited to – petitions against the government. Mr Orego on his part expressed gratitude to the governor for having faith in him and promised to discharge his duties diligently.
