National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed denied claims that he mishandled funds for Orange Democratic Movement election agents in the 2022 General Election.
He pointed the finger at people close to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Junet issued a statement on Saturday. He replied to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. Sifuna had asked him to explain why party agents seemed missing from polling stations and went unpaid.
Junet said the problem came from choices made by those near the former president. Party officials who handled campaigns had no role.
The funds for agents went to Uhuru Kenyatta’s brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. Junet made that claim. It was simple and easy to check.
Muhoho picked Patrick Mburu to manage agent hiring and payments. Junet alleged.
Mburu acted as an IT expert. He said he could spot and stop any result changes by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Junet added that Mburu still works for the former president.
Junet pointed to a recent trip to prove Mburu’s close ties. Mburu went to Nigeria last weekend with Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo Musyoka. That shows he plays a big role.
Funds for agents got handled from a locked office in Nairobi’s Westlands. Most party officials stayed out. Even ODM presidential candidate Raila Odinga could not enter freely. Junet said so.
They ran payments and logistics from there. No one else could get in.
Those people failed to hire or send agents for Odinga in key areas. No agents in Mt Kenya. None in Luo Nyanza. Junet stated.
Junet rejected ideas that he let down the party leader. Raila Odinga picked him as Minority Leader in the National Assembly. That shows full trust.
He urged those involved to speak up. Kenyans need the truth on agent money. Who held it? Who messed it up? Who cost the election?
