Aladwa Proposes Winnie Odinga as ODM Deputy Party Leader

George Aladwa, the Makadara MP, suggests nominating Winnie Odinga as a Deputy Party Leader in the Orange Democratic Movement. She is the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a Saturday interview with a local media outlet on December 3, 2025, the frank MP pointed out that Raila served as an ODM delegate from Nairobi County. Aladwa wants Winnie to step into that role after her father’s death.

He plans to propose her as one of four ODM Deputy Party Leaders once she becomes the Nairobi delegate.

“I had suggested this before the NDC. Raila was Nairobi’s delegate, so Winnie should take that spot. Then we propose four deputy leaders, with Winnie as one,” Aladwa said.

Odinga family roles in ODM

Aladwa brushed off worries that Winnie’s rise might cause tension. ODM already has Odinga family members in key spots.

Party Leader Oburu Odinga heads ODM. His sister Ruth Odinga, Kisumu Woman Rep, serves on the Central Management Committee.

Aladwa said Winnie, Oburu, and Ruth stand on their own. Family links should not block them from party jobs.

“No issue here. Ruth is not Winnie. Winnie is not Oburu. They have different names and traits. They share a family, but that won’t stop anyone from any seat,” he said.

Tensions in ODM

Aladwa made this pitch as ODM top leaders clash over the party’s path. The big question: back President William Ruto in 2027?

Even Party Leader Oburu Odinga seems out of step with Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. They don’t match on key points.

Aladwa called on them to settle it inside the party. Both sit on the Central Management Committee and National Executive Committee. They should talk and fix it.

Sifuna vs. Oburu clash

Aladwa spoke days after Sifuna warned Oburu. He said Oburu must not let pro-government ODM members sway him.

Sifuna pushed Oburu to decide freely. But first, check with party members, including base supporters and delegates.

Oburu hit back. He said leading ODM well needs input from others in the party.

He told ODM officials to speak as one. The party set its course already.
