Jimi Wanjigi disqualified from presidential polls for lack of University degree

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission today rejected the application for nomination by Safina party presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi for lack of a university degree.

A statement from the IEBC said “The Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Wafula Chebukati rejects the application by Safina Party’s Presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi to be registered as a Presidential candidate for failing to provide a degree certificate”. Further the polls body also says Wanjigi’s application also did not meet the required minimum number of supporters as it fell short by one (1) county.

Chebukati also rejected the second application by Eliud Muthiora Kariara, an Independent aspirant, to be registered as a Presidential candidate for not submitting the required minimum number of supporters.

At the end of the exercise which ended today, the commission released a statement confirming that the following candidates met the requisite constitutional and statutory requirements to run for President of Kenya;

  1. David Mwaure Waihiga (Agano Party
  2. Prof. George Wajackoyah (Roots Party)
  3. Raila Odinga (Azimio Coalition Political Party)
  4. William Ruto (United Democratic Alliance)
