I May Contest Nairobi Gubernatorial Seat, Moses Kuria Hints

Moses Kuria, former Trade Cabinet Secretary, has once again indicated that he may attempt to run in the Nairobi governor election in the 2027 General Election.

Using his X handle on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Kuria posted a thoughtfully designed campaign-style poster that included himself and Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa.

He further explained that his interest in Nairobi is driven by a strong desire to bring order and efficiency back to the capital city, rather than tribal or party politics.

It’s not because of our tribes. Not due to our parties. We care deeply for Nairobi. We comprehend the difficulties that people in Nairobi are facing. Kuria noted on X that we have networks for fixing Nairobi on both a local, regional and global level.

Kuria highlighted his leadership experience as his primary selling point, stating that he and Aladwa possess years of combined managerial and governance expertise essential to reposition the city.

With nearly a decade of leadership and over a decade of managerial experience between us. As we do not identify with tribal affiliations. As he pointed out, we possess the necessary resources to revitalise Nairobi.

His latest post comes just hours after he defended himself against allegations that he was employed to split votes in the Mbeere North mini poll, where United Democratic Alliance candidate Leo Wamuthende defeated Newton Karish by a margin of 494 votes.

Kuria responded to allegations that Chama Cha Kazi’s candidate Duncan Mbui was being backed to split opposition votes by dismissing the claims and counter-questioning his critics.

Opposition leaders were asked why they had not united behind a single candidate.

Kuria stated that he is entertained by those claiming he and the CCK party were on a mission to split votes in Mbeere North.

Did we have an agreement with anyone that we failed to keep? We weren’t approached with any deal and we turned it down.

Hon Duncan Mbui was picked after he was dropped by DCP. “What was the reason for dropping him,” Kuria said.

Kuria also wondered how he could be accused of splitting votes when he was the only leader actively campaigning for Mbui, in contrast to the Karish camp, which boasted heavyweights such as Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, George Natembeya, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Justin Muturi and a number of MPs.

“How can I garner 2,480 votes when I am alone in a position to undermine your voting power?” Kuria asked, describing the criticism as unfair.
