Gachagua Family Appeals to Ruto Over Estate Dispute, Alleges Fraud

The family of the late James Nderitu Gachagua has reached out to President William Ruto, seeking intervention in a prolonged dispute regarding the administration of his estate. They cite enduring suffering, uncertainty, and alleged irregularities as key concerns.

In a media statement released on Friday, March 27, 2026, the family expressed their decision to go public after unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter privately.

“After careful consideration, we, the family of the late Hon. James Nderitu Gachagua, have decided to publicly address our rightful inheritance,” the statement declares.

Initially, the family chose silence “out of respect, patience, and hope for a quiet resolution.” However, they now feel compelled to speak out due to the ongoing challenges.

“The prolonged nature of these issues has left us with no choice but to voice our concerns,” they stated.

The family has formally submitted their appeal through the Office of the Attorney General, expressing hope that the President will review their case and facilitate a resolution.

“We have submitted a detailed appeal through the Office of the Attorney General and are hopeful that His Excellency will take the time to review it and provide his support,” the statement notes.

They also acknowledged the President for previously highlighting issues related to their late father, while expressing difficulties in directly reaching him.

“We appreciate His Excellency the President for raising awareness about our late father’s matters. However, we have faced significant barriers in contacting him directly,” they said.

“This is why we have turned to the media, to ensure our concerns reach him and the relevant authorities.”

Their appeal details claims of interference in the estate’s administration by a close relative, which they allege has resulted in distress and financial loss.

“Since Hon. James Nderitu Gachagua’s passing, we have endured years of profound suffering and injustice,” the letter states.

The family accuses the relative of using “intimidation, manipulation, and underhand methods” in managing the estate, alleging irregular asset transfers and attempts to disinherit them.

“Through intimidation and manipulation, this relative has sought to disinherit the immediate family by facilitating irregular asset transfers and fraudulently acquiring property that belongs to us,” the letter reads.

A significant concern in their appeal involves the will referenced in the succession process, which the family questions for its validity.

“A central issue is the Will purportedly cited… which raises serious concerns about forgery and a scheme to disinherit lawful beneficiaries,” they stated.

They highlight that the document is labeled “Draft Last Will and Testament,” arguing this raises doubts about its authenticity.

“A ‘draft’ document cannot legally constitute the final will and testament of the deceased,” the letter asserts.

The family also connects the will’s timing to the late politician’s health, noting he was seriously ill and unable to engage in such processes.

“During his final days in the hospital, his condition deteriorated significantly,” the appeal notes.

They argue this situation raises “serious concerns regarding forgery and manipulation” of the succession process.

Unresolved issues around the estate have left them in financial distress and uncertainty.

“As a result of this interference, numerous critical matters regarding the estate remain unresolved, causing us prolonged agony and financial distress,” the letter states.

The family seeks various interventions, including an independent investigation into the estate’s handling.

They request the return of assets they believe were irregularly transferred and protection from further interference.

“With humility, our family specifically prays for: an independent investigation, the return of all irregularly transferred assets, and protection from further intimidation,” the letter reads.

Despite the dispute, the family emphasizes their intention is not to litigate publicly but to engage relevant authorities.

“We have chosen to share a redacted version of our letter because our goal is not to litigate in the court of public opinion, but to ensure that the appropriate authorities are informed,” the statement explains.

Their appeal is rooted in a desire for justice and fairness.

“As a family, we seek justice and fairness. We have faced pain, loss, and prolonged uncertainty. Like any family, we have reached a point where we must share our story in our own voice.”

The family remains open to dialogue and hopeful for a resolution.

“We stay open, respectful, and hopeful for a just outcome.”
