A tragic incident occurred in Embu County, where an eight-year-old girl lost her life due to injuries from a swarm of bees while gathering firewood with other children.
On Saturday, the Gachoka Police Station in Mbeere South Sub-County received a report about this heartbreaking event. The girl’s mother shared that her daughter passed away at home after her condition worsened following the attack.
Preliminary investigations reveal that on Friday around 1 PM, the girl and her peers ventured into a nearby bush in Syomanthi Village, Gachuriri Sub-location, to collect firewood when they were unexpectedly attacked by bees. The other children managed to escape and raised the alarm, prompting community members to rush to the scene and attempt a rescue.
A neighbor informed the mother about the incident, and she quickly took her child to Gachuriri Medical Clinic for first aid. Doctors later referred the girl to Tenri Hospital for specialized care. However, instead of following the recommendation for admission, the mother chose to return home with her child.
Sadly, around 4 AM on Saturday, the girl’s condition deteriorated, leading to her passing at home. Police officers later visited the residence and found her body lying on a bed, showing signs of swelling on her face and upper body. Authorities processed the scene before transferring the body to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The police have initiated an inquiry into this tragic event as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Such incidents have also been reported in Homa Bay and Siaya Counties, prompting urgent calls for caution from concerned parties.
In a separate case, police in Isiolo County have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a man found deceased on the ground in the Kulamawe area.
This incident came to light on Saturday when members of the public alerted authorities to the discovery of the body. Police quickly responded to the scene. The deceased, identified as Paul Kimani Gitonga, showed signs of trauma, including bruises on his face and right hand, suggesting he may have been assaulted prior to his death.
Authorities processed and documented the scene before moving the body to Isiolo General Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The police have opened a murder investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.
