Digital cartoonist Kibet Bull released after abduction

Digital cartoonist Gideon Kibet, popularly known as Kibet Bull for his viral caricatures of President William Ruto, has been released following his abduction in Nairobi.

Kibet was taken by suspected security officials on December 24, 2024, shortly after meeting Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah at the senator’s office.

His family confirmed his safe return on Monday, stating that he has since made his way back to Nakuru. Kibet took to social media platform X to announce his release, revealing that he was left in the Luanda area of Vihiga County at around 3-4 a.m. on Monday. Feeling stranded and uncertain about his next move, he attended a local “disco matanga” (an overnight funeral dance) before booking a bus ticket home.

Kibet’s case marks the fifth instance of missing persons reappearing in various parts of the country, prompting concerns about the ongoing abductions.

On Monday morning, families of other missing individuals—Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Rony Kiplangat—reported that they had been in contact with their loved ones. Mwangi and Muteti have already reunited with their families.

Citizen Digital confirmed that Kiplangat, who was abducted in Nairobi, was found in Machakos County, while Kavuli, who went missing in Ngong, was located in Kitale.

In response to the recent surge in missing persons cases, the National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement on Monday. According to the NPS, three individuals—Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, and Rony Kiplangat—have safely returned to their families. These cases had been reported at Embu Police Station, Kabete Police Station, and Thogoto Police Post, respectively.

Additionally, Bernard Kavuli, who was previously reported missing at Ngong Police Station, has presented himself at Moi’s Bridge Police Station, where he is now assisting investigators.

As the situation unfolds, the public remains watchful, seeking answers and accountability regarding the disturbing trend of abductions in the country.
