Seven Arrested Over Kariobangi North PCEA Church Chaos

Law enforcement authorities have detained seven individuals in connection with the violent disturbances that interrupted a thanksgiving ceremony at PCEA Kariobangi North on Sunday, November 30, 2025. These individuals were apprehended in the Lucky Summer neighborhood and are currently u KOndergoing preliminary procedures before facing formal charges.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the arrests resulted from ongoing investigations into the incident, which caused multiple injuries and halted the religious gathering.

The statement indicated that the National Police Service had indeed apprehended seven suspects involved in the disturbances at the Kariobangi North PCEA Church. Authorities anticipate additional arrests as investigations progress and photographic and acoustic analyses are completed.

The altercations began during a celebratory event marking the electoral success of Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) David Wanyoike, representing the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). Various prominent figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, were present at the gathering.

According to previous police reports, as the event neared its conclusion, a group of young individuals, carrying rudimentary weapons, attempted to force their way into the church premises. Officers present requested additional support when a second group of youths approached, leading to a violent confrontation that extended into the church building. Six individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to the hospital.

The incident provoked considerable public apprehension, prompting questions about the escalating political tension within the city.

In the aftermath, claims circulated on social media alleging that police deployed tear gas canisters inside the church sanctuary. The NPS, however, refuted these allegations as unfounded.

NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga clarified, stating, “We aim to correct inaccurate information suggesting that a tear gas canister was discharged inside the church.” Church officials have verified that no such occurrence took place, and the service subsequently resumed and concluded without further incident.

Those arrested have been identified as Charles Otieno Opiyo, Wilson Okoth alias M.C. Otieno, Michael Mutunga Kavulunze, Brian Omondi Odhiambo alias “Bryo”, Reggy Opiyo Otwole, Elisha Otieno Ochieng, and Gordon Odhiambo Onyango.

Authorities state that the suspects were located in Lucky Summer and are believed to have played a significant role in the altercation.

The National Police Service has appealed to any witnesses or individuals possessing additional information to come forward and assist with the continuing inquiry. The NPS concluded by imploring citizens to cooperate with law enforcement for the collective benefit of the community.
