A court in Busia has freed five people who were arrested and charged with murder of six bouncers in Masebula primary school in Butula Sub County, Busia County.
Caroline Atieno, Christine Apondi, Boniface Onyango Oduol, Gilbert Onono and Ronald Oduor were on August 4 freed by judge Kiarie Waweru due to lack of enough evidence for the murder.
In November 2019, the five had been arrested and detained at Busia Police station following a brutal killing of the six bouncers from Kisumu, who had attended the burial of the late Johannes Okoth, a businessman. They were later arraigned and charged with murder case at Busia law courts.
According to the ruling from judge Kiarie, the prosecution did not convince the court that the accused were the real killers of the bouncers. The ruling stated that there was a big crowd at the scene and therefore one could not easily identify the people who were the mastermind of the brutal lynching of the six. The deceased were identified as; David Okeyo Odhiambo, Elvis Otieno, Evans Onyango, William Omondi Oriwo, Nickson Adera and Philip Omware.
