Arsenal’s title hopes torn apart by Brighton

Brighton’s Deniz Undav (number 21), as scores Brighton’s second goal against Arsenal. Brighton won 3-0.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal’s title hopes were torn apart by Brighton when the Gunners were whipped 0-3 by gritty Brighton at Emirates stadium.

Gunners came to the match with a do-or-die mentality, knowing so well that any slip up would dwindle their title chances, a dream that they have haboured for nearly twenty years now.

The last time that Arsenal won the Premier League gong was in 2004/2005 season, with a side popularly known as the ‘The Invincibles’. That season, the Gunners, under their legendary coach Arsen Wenger, won the title without losing even a single match, a feat that no any other club has since replicated in the EPL.

This season, before Arsenal’s title hopes were torn apart by Brighton, it was glaring to everyone that the Emirates outfit would win the title this season after leading the table for more than three quarters of the season, only to let it slip off their feeble hands. Right now, Arsenal have three games to play, but Manchester City have a game in hand, and with a 5-point advantage over the Gunners.

Even as Arsenal’s title hopes were torn apart by Brighton, City, on the other side, had nothing to stop them on their way to clinch the trophy as they thumped Everton 0-3 at Goodison Park. This will be the third competition this season where Manchester City are expecting to win a trophy.

City have an outing with their arch-rivals Manchester United in a FA Cup final slated for sixth June. Tomorrow, on 16th, they are having a tricky outing as they welcome the no-nosense Real Madrid at Etihad for the second leg of UEFA Champions League tie.
