Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Nyeri Archdiocese has called out some members of the political elite for arguing angrily in the days after the passing and burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary of Sister Irene Stefani Nyaatha’s beatification in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, Muheria cautioned that heated discussions run the risk of escalating ethnic tension. Instead, the archbishop urged the political elite to embrace unity and public service and to return to the fundamental principles of leadership.
“We ask them to bring God, mercy, and caring because only when a leadership is filled with Christ, filled with God, filled with love, and forgiving is it true leadership,” Muheria said of the conversations she occasionally hears with leaders.
The leaders were told to refrain from engaging in self-serving rhetoric and refo by Muheria, who has never hesitated to call the political class.
