Allegations that Dr. Fred Matiang’i is a political project of former President Uhuru Kenyatta have been rejected by the former Interior Cabinet Secretary.
He has accused some leaders of hypocrisy for claiming to be Uhuru’s allies while claiming to be seeking Uhuru’s support. Speaking on Wednesday, Matiang’i claimed that politicians were being dishonest when they referred to him as “Uhuru’s project” while pursuing political support from the former head of state.
“Whether I am someone’s project or not, I cannot change the past. He stated on Spice FM, “Under President Uhuru Kenyatta, I was a Cabinet Minister.
“Whether or not that qualifies me as his project is ultimately just a point of contention. People will claim that I am Uhuru’s project, even though they are seeking the same person that Uhuru mentioned,”
The former Cabinet Secretary criticized what he described as some political figures’ desperate attempt to use Uhuru’s name for publicity.”
He insisted that his decision to run for president was independent and rejected the idea that Uhuru had an impact on his aspirations. “Uhuru informed me that I am not seeking the presidency. “I made a choice,” he explained.
Matiang’i also asked why, among other former Cabinet colleagues with political aspirations, he is being singled out. Three or four additional members of his Cabinet, such as Eugene Wamalwa and me, may be interested in running for president. He was the Minister of Defence, and I was the Minister of the Interior, so why am I his project instead of Wamalwa?
In the run-up to the 2027 elections, there is increasing conjecture regarding the former CS’s political intentions. Recently, Matiang’i has made a comeback to the public eye, getting involved in politics and possibly forming alliances with the United Opposition group. The most recent event was going to the Jubilee National Delegates Convention with Uhuru, following months of conjecture regarding the party he would run for president in 2027.
