Garrisa Governor Ali Korone has presented himself before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for questioning over an alleged embezzlement of 233.5million World Bank -funded Kenya Urban Support Programme(KUSP) project.
The prosecution of Korane and four co-accused was ordered by the DPP Noordin Haji on the 11th of September. He was accused alongside Abdulahi Aden Ahmed head of Accounting at the Municipal, The Country’s Chief of Finance Ibrahim Nur Malow, head of Treasury Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi and County Executive Officer Abdi Shale.
The money in question was meant for building of Qorahey market, construction of pedestrian walkways and storm water drainage and for the renovation of Garrisa Township CBD roads. According to the investigators, the 233.5 million was instead diverted to subsequent individual accounts via the Garrisa Municipal Board.
