Ndindi Nyoro Joins PPK as Opposition Eyes 2027

The People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) has emerged as a significant new political force within the opposition after Ndindi Nyoro, the Member of Parliament for Kiharu, assumed leadership and announced his transition along with his supporters into the opposition.

PPK presents itself as a grassroots movement dedicated to empowering ordinary Kenyans, including teachers, traders, farmers, boda boda riders, and youth. The party operates under the inspiring slogan “Sauti ya Wakenya” (Your voice. Your party. Your Kenya).

Nyoro’s involvement introduces a prominent political figure with a strong foundation in Mount Kenya and valuable experience from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The People’s Party of Kenya is a fully registered political entity, holding certificate serial number 022 from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties since May 14, 2012. Its official symbol is a microphone, and it proudly showcases colors of blue, red, green, and white, with the slogan “Usawa Haki Uhuru” (Equality, Justice, Freedom).

Headquartered at Ruprani House on Moktar Dada Street, PPK has roots tracing back to approximately 1996, despite its formal registration in 2012. The party’s political platform emphasizes four key areas: reducing the cost of living, creating job opportunities and affordable capital for small businesses, enhancing healthcare and education, and strengthening accountability in government.

PPK advocates for lowering taxes on essential household items, expanding access to affordable financing for small businesses, and ensuring that hospitals are well-stocked with medicines and adequately staffed. Additionally, it aims to tackle overcrowded classrooms and promote transparency in public fund utilization, emphasizing a devolution agenda that ensures resources effectively reach counties and local communities.

On August 17, 2026, Nyoro announced his departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join PPK. He stated, “As Ndindi Nyoro and my supporters, we have today joined the People’s Party of Kenya. We invite all Kenyans to consider PPK in their political choices for 2027.” His appeal encourages citizens to recognize PPK’s leadership potential in advancing Kenya.

Nyoro’s decision follows nearly a year of discussions with various political leaders, including Peter Munya, Martha Karua, James Orengo, Edwin Sifuna, Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Fred Matiang’i. Orengo was present at the announcement, warmly welcoming Nyoro into the opposition.

Previously, Nyoro was a significant supporter of Kenya Kwanza and played a crucial role in backing President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election. He also served as chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Nyoro aims to expand PPK’s influence beyond Mount Kenya through a nationwide mobilization strategy. He plans to initiate tours in Uasin Gishu, Kericho, and Nandi, regions that have traditionally supported Ruto.

Nyoro has extended invitations to opposition aspirants to participate in PPK rallies and has committed to mentoring candidates for both municipal and parliamentary positions under the party’s banner. This strategic approach positions PPK as a vital player in the broader opposition landscape leading up to 2027.

Nyoro’s entry enriches the opposition field, which is actively evolving as parties and leaders prepare for the upcoming electoral contest.
