Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka firmly announced his intention to engage President William Ruto solely through the ballot on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, when Kenyans will elect their next president.
Speaking passionately during a rally in Samburu County on Saturday, August 1, 2026, Kalonzo rejected calls for political dialogue with Ruto, emphasizing that any conversation would only occur after Kenyans cast their votes in 2027.
“I am here to ensure that the dialogue I seek with Ruto happens during this election year. We will communicate through our votes; let’s first remove him from office, and then we can talk,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo advocates for a one-term agenda, urging Kenyans to support the opposition’s mission to make Ruto a one-term president. He asserted that the 2027 election will resolve the debate regarding the president’s future.
“How many of you agree? Let’s raise our fingers for one term. The conversation revolves around one term versus two terms,” he said.
He highlighted that the majority in Kenya advocate for a one-term limit, encouraging citizens not to fear expressing their views.
Kalonzo referenced Malawi and Ghana as examples of African nations where incumbents failed to secure a second term. “Malawi made their president serve one term… even Ghana did the same. Across Africa, people are speaking out against corruption and the misappropriation of public resources,” he added.
His comments come amidst ongoing speculation about a potential political alliance with President Ruto before the 2027 General Election. Kalonzo has consistently dismissed these claims, reaffirming his commitment to challenging Ruto through a unified opposition rather than aligning with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
This latest declaration emphasizes that election day will be the only occasion he plans to “engage” the President, asserting that the election results must come before any discussions can take place.
Kalonzo also encouraged Kenyans to register as voters, stressing that high voter turnout is crucial for unseating the President in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
