Kiambu Garbage Truck Driver Dies After Electrocution at Dumpsite

A tragic incident occurred at the Kangoki Dumpsite in Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County, where a garbage truck driver, Joseph Mwangi Muchiri, lost his life due to contact with a high-voltage power line. This heartbreaking event unfolded on Thursday morning when the 42-year-old driver, having just offloaded waste, accidentally raised the truck’s dump bed, which struck the overhead power line.

Emergency responders, including local police and a Kenya Power team, arrived promptly at the scene. They found the truck entangled with the electricity lines and worked diligently to ensure the area’s safety by isolating the electricity supply. Sadly, despite the efforts of Good Samaritans who rushed him to Thika Level Five Hospital, Mr. Mwangi succumbed to his injuries.

Crime scene investigators meticulously documented the site, while the deceased’s body was transferred to General Kago Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Authorities are actively pursuing investigations to uncover more details surrounding this incident.

In a separate investigation, police in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County, are looking into the mysterious death of a 69-year-old man, Patrick Nyamai Nyumu, discovered in a neighbor’s compound on Thursday afternoon. The circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear, and police are diligently working to determine the cause of death. The body has been processed at the scene and is pending a post-mortem examination.

Additionally, in Nakuru West Sub-County, police are investigating the unsettling discovery of an amputated human leg found abandoned in a riverbed in the Kaptembwo area on Thursday morning. A concerned resident from Osieko reported the discovery after spotting the severed limb wrapped in a bandage.

Police officers responded to the scene, confirming the recovery of the amputated left leg, which has since been transported to Kwa Jack Mortuary for preservation while the investigation continues. Authorities are committed to uncovering the origins of this limb and the circumstances that led to its abandonment, and no arrests have been made at this time.
